From IDENTITY CRISIS I have read a story with DC superheroes really moved him for his dramatic depth. Joss Whedon wrote the introduction to the TPB in that it showed Ralph and Sue Dibny (Elongated Man and wife) as their favorite characters in DC comics, for his disarming humanity.
Major events after the INFINITE CRISIS few years ago, FINAL CRISIS and The darkest night has shone more for the freshness that Grant Morrison gave to the first and Geoff Johns's epic series imported from the GREEN LANTERN second. And all of these adventures larger than life and death plagued paradoxically effective return.
But then came two recent volumes of the JLA, written by James Robinson: REQUIEM FOR JUSTICE (which had the miniseries CRY FOR JUSTICE) and THE FALL OF GREEN ARROW. Both describe the formation of a Justice League parallel to classical, some frustrated by Hal Jordan and Oliver Queen, tired of the recent misfortunes of the penultimate crisis, it will take a more radical and proactive than usual The heroic Trinity group. And you certainly will do so reluctantly, because a huge massacre because they fall over the bloody villain remastered turn, very touching about some of them, which will make crossing moral lines even more than they had planned and face more pain disproportionate consequences.
and is GREEN ARROW FALL that discusses these implications sink two of these heroes and break into pieces (again) the cohesion of a JUSTICE LEAGUE low hours.
thing about this volume, which contains various original miniseries, is that it takes space and time to tell a coherent descent into hell of one of its protagonists, and the critical damage that it causes him and his friends.

Outside the DC universe, the closest equivalent in the time it occurs to me is Daredevil, where first and then Brian Michael Bendis Ed Brubaker, accompanied by a good group of artists have recounted the ordeal of particular Matt Murdock with a strong point in the definition of characters, increasing positive adult reader's interest. Because without a doubt, given its violent nature, slow and visibly away from hackneyed parameters of the classic adventure heroes are stories aimed at an adult audience or at least familiar with the characters on which read.
Returning to the JLA, detail is nice as the fact that while the group in general disarray and demoralized, and their alternates are unpopular latest additions to the heroic society keep active playing in first division. For subjects like Mikaal
Tomas or Congorila means something like that moment where DARKEST NIGHT Mera (Aquaman's widow, another character not relevant until then) and Atom (Ray Palmer, back from its worst) puzzled wonder in full global threat: "What do we do as a warning to Superman and Wonder Woman?" and Flash responds: "Right now, you are Superman and Wonder Woman" ... and take the bull by the horns.
