The United States Geological Survey located the epicenter provisionally 229.4 km deep and 111 kilometers from Chiang Mai, the main city in northern Thailand.
The earthquake took place in a remote, mountainous, sparsely inhabited and is part of the "Golden Triangle" drug, where the borders of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.
The Burmese authorities, the country where the media are all controlled by the Ministry of Information, so far have reported no casualties or damage. On day 10, 25 people died and 250 were injured in other movement quake, of 5.8 degrees, which shook the border region of China with Myanmar.
